30 Day Letter Writing Challenge

10 Jan

As many of you know, I live with bipolar II disorder. I’m currently on medication in order to manage my symptoms but one of the symptoms that don’t really make sense is how I process memory. I don’t remember dates. I remember things in emotions and how I felt physically and what was my emotional space during when it happened. I remember very specific but odd things but not the big stuff most people would notice. I remember the day my first boyfriend and I broke up. Because I remember that I was furious that he wouldn’t let me leave the room. He kept standing in front of me. And I recall the frustration I felt and how it heated and even now, I can feel my body temperature rise in that same way. But because I remember that, I know what happened next and then after that. I’ve been working on my book and because my memory is so shaky, I have to be cognizant of how I present stories.

One thing that’s helped me is letter writing. So when I saw this posted on tumblr (Mine is basseyworld.tumblr.com) I knew that I needed to participate. And I asked some of my twitter followers if they wanted to join because I’d love to read some of the stuff out there. And I’m also asking YOU to join. And you can put the letters where ever you want. You don’t have to send them if you don’t want to. You don’t have to do anything but write the letter. So if you want to participate, let me know. If you have a blog or tumblr, list it in the comment section here so that other people can find you if you want them to.

So yeah, I’m going to still blog the way I normally do when I feel like talking about something but I’m working on the book now so I need these exercises to help pull me into the memories of my days.

It should be an interesting ride. Please come on it with me.

I’ll bring snacks,

B.

It really helped. My heart felt so heavy with something I never thought I’d get the chance to express. Thank you for the push!

Another cool idea to keep letter writing alive is The Things Unsaid Project, found at http://www.thingsunsaidproject.wordpress.com. Love this endeavor and think others in a letter writing frame of mind will find it interesting as well.

This seems like a cool thing to do because I just miss writing & receiving letters. I don’t know if I’ll be doing all 30 days, but I think I’ll choose the most interesting/challenging 1′s for me & go from there.

    Thank you for this!

I love the idea of this challenge. I won’t try it because I tried the 30 Day Blog Challenge and quit after Day 7. I guess that speaks to my commitment. I’ll read yours, instead.

so i found this by way of someone i follow on wordpress as well. i’d been reading theirs for a minute and have been very inspired to follow suit. i’m the kinda blogger, http://rhae2bwrtn.wordpress.com/, that blogs according to whatever is on my mind, what i’m experiencing, have experienced. i would say its mostly poetry (because i live to write poetry) however its kinda of a collective of many things. yet, lately i have been allowing myself to rise to another level of vulnerability and freedom. it has caused me to step back and re-think(when normally i post and question last). anyway, i feel as though what this 30 day experience will allow me is the means to dig back into places that are still very present to me and give them closure, it will help me write more (when there is a block, which i’ve been having), help me liberate my sadness/depression and simply allow me to be.

i’m a little later on it, but starting March 1st of my 30 day writing experience. thank you bassey’s world and thank dee.
